PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT * (ages 14 – 16)

Develop drawing and painting skills. Students develop a visual arts portfolio, aiming toward a career in the arts. Individual and class projects. Models used in class. Age 15+

TEENS AND YOUNG ADULTS ARE WELCOME IN THESE CLASSES:

BEGINNING WATERCOLOR *
MONDAY  7:00 pm – 10:00 pm
A great class for beginners, work with a limited palette. Explore watercolor, see if it’s for you without going into debt to buy supplies. All basic techniques will be covered.

SCULPTURE  - STONE *
TUESDAYS  6:45 pm – 9:45 pm
Find the joy and excitement in carving a form in stone in a congenial atmosphere. Beginning students will be introduced to the tools and process of bringing a sculpture to completion. Advanced students will be encouraged to use power tools. Non -representational as well as figurative methods will be taught with the emphasis on creating three-dimensional shapes. All levels of ability are welcome.

THE FIGURE FROM BLACK AND WHITE TO COLOR *
TUESDAYS  7:00 pm -10:00 pm
Traditional and non-traditional approaches to drawing and painting the figure will be explored moving from black and white to color. All levels welcome.

CRAFT AND THEORY OF PAINTING *
WEDNESDAY  6:30pm – 9:30pm
Course includes use of materials and color theory. Course covers approaches to painting portrait still life and floral pieces including the chiaroscuro tradition of European masters. Students will be guided through the challenge of realistically representing still life and live models in oil. Many aspects of still life painting will be discussed and illustrated. Discussions on picture composition and creation of atmosphere, sense of mystery, proper preparation of painting materials. Demonstrations and individual critiques.
ALL LEVELS WELCOME!

PHOTOGRAPHY – TECHNIQUE AND DARKROOM *
WEDNESDAY  7:00pm – 10:00pm
Learn how to develop black & white film, make contact sheets, edit, crop and enlarge. Areas covered include: dodging, photographs, solarization, mat and frame types. Special attention given to photographing 3D objects and making slides of flat art work. Develop a personal vision. Students should shoot a roll of (400) Tri-x Black & White film to bring to first class.

PORTRAIT AND THE CLOTHED FIGURE *
THURSDAYS  7:00pm –10:00pm
Learn to draw and paint with charcoal, pastel or watercolor. Short action poses and longer ones of a costumed model. All levels welcome. A good introduction to fashion illustration.

*(Students in the portfolio class may take another class at reduced price. Please ask for added parental permission for figure drawing classes. )
