DYNAMIC FIGURE DRAWING

While drawing the model, explore the elements common to all good drawing: movement, proportion, structure, line and form. Learn to conceptualize the complex forms of the body as simple groups of masses and sub-masses. Individual critiques and lectures.

PAINTING

Using the still life and model to focus on basic painting principles of massing, value relationships, color, and design. Instruction geared to students’ individual skill levels.

CLASSICAL AND MODERN OIL PAINTING TECHNIQUES
with Max Horbund, Assisted by Aiko Aoyagi – 10 wks starting Jan. 10
6:30 pm – 9:30 pm $315
Learn to use oil paints both realistically and abstractly. This class features both classical realism and creating modern abstractions from reference. Our One Room Schoolhouse environment benefits both newer and experienced artists. Still life and graphic reference used. Frequent lectures, demos and easel critiques. Special attention is given to the Art School bound and the needs of professional painters.

FIGURE IN CLAY
with Jane Chang – 10 wks starting Jan. 10
7:00 pm – 9:00 pm $315   (material fee additional)
Explore the human form using various ceramic sculpture techniques. Class will be focused on developing an understanding of sculptural language. Works can be fired in the kiln at a later time.

 

PHOTOGRAPHY TECHNIQUE & DARKROOM TRADITIONAL & DIGITAL METHODS
with Jim Edmonds – 10 wks starting Jan. 10
7:00 pm – 10:00 pm $315 plus $25 material fee that includes chemicals. Students must bring their own photography paper.
Learn to develop digital images, managing them on Adobe lightroom along with the traditional method of developing black & white film, make contact sheets, edit, crop and enlarge. Areas covered include: dodging photographs, solarization, mat and frame types. Special attention is given to photographing 3D objects and making slides of flat artwork. Develop a personal vision. Students should shoot a roll of (400). Tri-x Black & White film to bring to first class or bring your digital images/camera.
