Designed for the person who wants to discover new digital tools & techniques to paint and retouch photos and/or paint directly with the computer. Laptop with Photoshop CS2 is required.
DYNAMIC FIGURE DRAWING

While drawing the model, explore the elements common to all good drawing – movement, proportion, structure, line and form. Learn to conceptualize the complex forms of the body as simple groups of masses and sub-masses. Individual critiques and lectures.
PORTRAIT
with John Varriano – 11 weeks starting Jan.6

Focus on the basic painting principles of massing, value, relationships and color as applied to the portrait. Poses, typically, two sessions long. Develop basic painting skills and particulars that relate to portraiture ie: character and likeness. Instruction geared to students’ individual skill level.
BEGINNING WATERCOLOR
with Marcia Rieff – 11 weeks starting Jan.6

A great class for beginners, work with a limited palette. Explore watercolor; see if it’s for you without going into debt to buy supplies. All basic techniques will be covered.
CRAFT AND THEORY OF PAINTING
With Max Horbund – 11 weeks starting Jan.6
6:30 pm – 9:30 pm $330.
Course includes use of materials and color theory. Course covers approaches to painting portrait still life and floral pieces including the chiaroscuro tradition of European masters. Students will be guided through the challenge of realistically representing still life and live models in oil. Many aspects of still life painting will be discussed and illustrated. Discussions on picture composition and creation of atmosphere, sense of mystery and proper preparation of painting materials. Demonstrations and individual critiques.

PHOTOGRAPHY – TECHNIQUE AND DARKROOM
with Jim Edmonds – 11 weeks starting Jan.6
7:00 pm – 10:00 pm $330
Learn how to develop black & white film, make contact sheets, edit, crop and enlarge. Areas covered include: dodging, photographs, solarization, mat and frame types. Special attention given to photographing 3D objects and making slides of flat art work. Develop a personal vision. Students should shoot a roll of (400) Tri-x Black & White film to bring to first class.
