DYNAMIC FIGURE DRAWING

While drawing the model, explore the elements common to all good drawing – movement, proportion, structure, line and form. Learn to conceptualize the complex forms of the body as simple groups of masses and sub-masses. Individual critiques and lectures.
PORTRAIT

Focus on the basic painting principles of massing, value, relationships and color as applied to the portrait. Poses, typically, two sessions long. Develop basic painting skills and particulars that relate to portraiture ie: character and likeness. Instruction geared to students’ individual skill level.

STEP-UP: BEGINNERS TO INTERMEDIATE WATERCOLOR

Let’s paint from a beginner’s mind as we step-up to a comfortable intermediate level exploring and developing your very own style. In this class we will once again get acquainted with the basics of watercolor as a warm-up and move up to our individual skill level starting from simple and easy objects to challenging exercises. We will experiment with new materials in paint, paper and mixed-media.
PAINTING WITH OILS : The Practical and Aesthetic Considerations for Painting Still Life and from Reference Images
With Max Horbund – 12 weeks starting Mar. 28

Course includes creation of fine oil paintings and focuses on composition, practical use of materials and how and when to use color. Course covers approaches to painting portrait, still life and floral pieces including the chiaroscuro tradition of European masters as well as painting from photographic reference and sketches. Students will be guided through the challenge of realistically representing still life, landscape and live models in oil: emphasis given to composition, creation of atmosphere, sense of mystery and the proper preparation of painting materials. Demonstrations and individual critiques. Special attention given to Art School bound students.

PHOTOGRAPHY – TECHNIQUE AND DARKROOM
TRADITIONAL & DIGITAL METHODS
with Jim Edmonds – 12 weeks starting Mar. 28
7:00 pm – 10:00 pm $360
Learn to develop digital images, managing them on adobe light room along with the traditional method of developing black & white film, make contact sheets, edit, crop and enlarge. Areas covered include: dodging photographs, solarization, mat and frame types. Special attention given to photographing 3D objects and making slides of flat art work. Develop a personal vision. Students should shoot a roll of (400). Tri-x Black & White film to bring to first class or bring your digital images/camera.
HANDBUILDING WITH CLAY (Ages 15 and up)
with Bonnie Deutsch – 12 weeks starting Mar. 28

A variety of hand building techniques will be explored. Material and firing cost included.
