We will work realistically or abstractly from the figure. We will discuss principles of drawing and painting, focusing on measuring, proportion, scale, positive and negative space, and sighting, as well as color theory and how to apply them to the representation of the figure. We will work on paint application, understanding value and temperature as well as the importance of edges and color harmony. The class will begin with short poses and then change to one long pose for the duration of the class. The model will be nude or partially clothed. There will be discussions based on many of these principles as well as anatomy and gesture concepts. There will also be monthly critiques to help you analyze your own work.
